What would happen if assistive technology was standard in schools? Read on to see my ‘shopping list’ for technology that boosts confidence and attainment.

We live in a technological society that increasingly seeks to use technology to break boundaries in our day to day activities and yet whilst schools use technology to teach mainstream education, somehow on a systemic level they are failing to use technology to empower dyslexic learners who are often taught in a way that plays to their weaknesses.

What would happen if this changed?

What if ANY student had access to technology that helped with studying? What if they were allowed to choose from a range of ‘study tools’ available within their school environment that could help them to be more focused, productive and learn more resulting in improved attainment?

Whilst the experience of dyslexia is different for each individual who has it, there are common challenges experienced in education that assistive technology can definitely help with. This is not cheating, this is levelling the playground and making education a fairer environment for the dyslexic learner to unlock their potential.

With these thoughts in mind, I recorded the video below to explore assistive technologies that I think should be standard in schools for all to use.

So what are your thoughts?

The video above purely comes from my own perspective. You may have other thoughts. Perhaps I have missed some technology that needs to be on that list.
